Vlasenica - Bosnia and Herzegovina | 4K
Autor: Adnan Vejzovic - BH Adventures Datum objave: 12.11.2023. Opis. Vlasenica is a populated place and the seat of the municipality of the same name in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It includes populated places: Panorama, Bregovi, Centar, Kruševik, Sušica, Zajednica and Industrial Zone. Vlasenica got its name from the grass "Vlasulja" that grows in this area. It appeared as a settlement in the middle of the 15th century, with the arrival of the Ottomans in Bosnia and the occupation of the then area under the name "Birač", around 1463. For those who are less familiar with the Vlasenica area, you should know that the characteristic features of this area are tall and dense forests, which, along with other beauties and riches, give Vlasenica a special charm. During the exodus of Muslims from Užice in 1862, several families moved to Vlasenica, including Tihići, Durmići and Carhasanovići and others. According to all known sources, the surroundings of Vlasenica were continuously inhabited from prehistoric times to the present day, which, among others, is evidenced by the necropolis with mounds at the Šošari site. Other indicators are numerous necropolises (71), stećci (1595 - 65 decorated in relief and one with an inscription), remains of settlements, old towns, medieval roads, etc. At the time of Bosnian independence, the area of today's Vlasenica was part of the medieval parish of Birač, the first written traces of which can be seen in 1244, and are still preserved in the Dubrovnik library. At that time, this region was mainly owned by the feudal family of Pavlović, Dinjičić, Zlatonosović and Orlović, who had their own fortifications and castles near Vlasenica. In the middle of the 15th century, among the first in Bosnia, this area passed into the hands of the Ottomans, and in those years the first larger settlement called Birač was formed. During the Ottoman rule, Vlasenica was an important crossroads. In the 17th century, as the center of the kadiluk (section), it was part of the Zvornik captaincy, and from 1842 it was included in regular telegraph, telephone and postal traffic. With the establishment of the Austro-Hungarian administration, the ownership section was established as part of the Tuzla region. As early as 1879, the macadam road Sarajevo-Sokolac-Han Pijesak-Vlasenica-Zvornik was reconstructed. The economic situation in Vlasenica and its surroundings between the two world wars was very difficult. Hunger, tuberculosis, typhus, dysentery and various other diseases were rampant. During the Second World War (1941 -1945), Vlasenica passed from the hands of various warring parties, which could not remain without consequences expressed in large human casualties and material destruction on a wide scale. In the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992. ethnic cleansing and genocide was carried out against the majority population of this municipality until then, and the center of suffering, torture and brutal treatment was the Sušica camp. So far, only three people have been convicted of war crimes in Vlasenica and the Sušica camp. In 2005, the International Criminal Court for the former Yugoslavia sentenced Dragan Nikolić, known as Jenki, the commander of the Sušica camp, to 20 years in prison for the murders, rape and torture of Bosniak inmates in Sušica. The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina sentenced Predrag Bastah, known as Car, and Goran Višković, known as Vjetar, to a total of 40 years in prison. The impunity of criminals and the fact that many of them are still at large gave the right to those who live in this area today to believe that they did good things.
